Law enforcement describes hygiene-focused crime spree as ‘unprecedented’ and ‘deeply ironic’

EVERGLADES CITY, FL — A seven-foot Skunk Ape has been positively identified as the perpetrator behind a string of deodorant thefts across three CVS Pharmacy locations in Collier County, according to security footage released by the Department of Cryptid Affairs Tuesday morning.

The incidents, which occurred between October 12-15, show the same creature methodically selecting premium antiperspirant products before exiting each store without completing the transaction. Store managers report losses totaling $127.43 in personal care items, primarily focusing on clinical-strength formulations.

The irony is not lost on any of us. This is a creature whose defining characteristic is overwhelming body odor, and it’s stealing deodorant. We’re not sure how to categorize this behaviorally.

Pattern Recognition

Security footage from all three locations shows remarkably consistent behavior. The Skunk Ape enters through automatic doors—which store employees note triggered normally—proceeds directly to aisle seven, and spends approximately four minutes examining different products before making selections.

• Old Spice Clinical: 4 units
• Degree Men Ultra Clear: 3 units
• Secret Clinical Strength: 2 units
• Total retail value: $127.43

“What’s particularly unusual is the creature’s apparent brand loyalty,” noted Collier County Sheriff Detective Maria Santos. “It consistently avoided generic products and seemed to read ingredient labels. This suggests a level of consumer awareness we haven’t documented in previous Skunk Ape encounters.”

FIELD ALERT

CVS Pharmacy has implemented temporary security measures at seventeen South Florida locations. Customers are advised that personal care aisles may have reduced evening hours while the situation develops.

Official Response

Department of Cryptid Affairs spokesperson Arthur Pritchard addressed the thefts during Tuesday’s press briefing, describing the situation as “manageable” while acknowledging several procedural complications.

We’re exploring whether this constitutes a territorial marking behavior or genuine self-care initiative. The DCA is prepared to facilitate a payment arrangement if the entity wishes to resolve this matter through proper retail channels.

— Arthur Pritchard, DCA Spokesperson

The International Yowie Council released a statement distancing themselves from the incidents while expressing solidarity with “all cryptids pursuing personal wellness goals.” Council representative Janet Morrison noted that hygiene-related theft falls outside established territorial agreements but urged patience during what she termed “a clearly transitional period.”

Local residents report the familiar sulfuric odor associated with Skunk Ape presence has been noticeably diminished in the affected areas since the thefts began. Three separate witnesses described the scent as “more like regular swamp gas” rather than the typically overwhelming experience.
