The nine-foot antlered figure arrived with the 7am rush, positioned himself between the granola and the family-size Raisin Bran, and has not moved since. A PA announcement was made. He did not respond to it.
ANCHORAGE, AK — The Safeway location on Northern Lights Boulevard opened at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. By 7:04 a.m., a nine-foot humanoid figure bearing a full rack of antlers — estimated at an additional thirty-one inches of clearance — had positioned itself in aisle 7, the cereal aisle, and had not moved, spoken, or selected a product. As of the time of this report, it remains there. Store management confirms the entity entered through the automatic doors, which opened for it without incident, and proceeded directly to its current position without browsing.
Thirty staff and customers have confirmed the sighting. Descriptions are consistent. The figure stands motionless, facing the shelving. It has not reached for anything. It has not responded to other shoppers moving around it, to the ambient store music — which was, at approximately 8:15 a.m., switched from the standard playlist to nature sounds in what a shift supervisor described as a goodwill gesture — or to a PA announcement made at 9:47 a.m. by store manager Linda Foss, which read, in full: “Attention Aisle 7 guest, if you need assistance finding a product, a team member is happy to help.” The figure did not look up. The team member who volunteered to follow up has requested not to be named.
He’s just standing there. He’s not blocking anyone, technically. He’s just — he’s in front of the Grape-Nuts and he’s been there since before my shift started and I don’t know what the protocol is for this.

A representative from the Department of Cryptid Affairs confirmed that a notification had been received and that the matter was being assessed under the Retail Presence and Stationary Entity guidelines established following the Costco incident of 2021, which this network covered and which resulted in updated signage requirements for warehouse stores in six states. DCA spokesperson Arthur Pritchard stated that the entity’s presence was not, at this stage, categorised as a disruption, as it had not disrupted any transaction, and that the DCA’s position was that the situation was, quote, “proceeding in a manner consistent with known Moose Man behaviour.” When asked what known Moose Man behaviour consisted of, Pritchard said the DCA was not in a position to share that information at this time but considered the store’s current approach, which is to leave him alone, broadly appropriate.
Dr. Amelia Cross, WTC’s network cryptid biologist, noted that the cereal aisle selection is not without precedent. “Aisle positioning in stationary entity events often reflects something,” Dr. Cross said. “Whether that something is nutritional interest, territorial familiarity, or simply the structural geometry of the shelving — the sight lines are very clean in a standard supermarket aisle — we cannot yet say.” Dr. Cross added that the granola proximity was worth noting and asked that anyone with additional data contact the network. She has submitted a formal observation request to Safeway corporate. Corporate has not responded. This is consistent with previous submissions.
Aisle 7 remains open. Shoppers have been navigating around the figure, which requires a slight lean to the left when passing. One customer, reached by WTC outside the store, said he had successfully retrieved a box of Cheerios from the shelf directly to the figure’s right and described the experience as “fine, mostly.” He did not elaborate on the “mostly.” Store management has indicated it will not be closing the aisle unless the situation changes. When asked what change would prompt closure, Manager Foss paused for a duration her colleague later described as significant, then said she would have to get back to us. Authorities continue to urge caution. Aisle 7 continues to be monitored. The Grape-Nuts have not been restocked.
