Cascade Timber Corp maintains that mysterious tree-protecting entities are simply environmentalists with ‘unprecedented dedication to method acting.’

MOUNT BAKER NATIONAL FOREST, OREGON — Cascade Timber Corporation executives held an emergency press conference yesterday to address what they describe as ‘an escalating public relations challenge involving nature enthusiasts with exceptional commitment to their craft.’ The challenge in question involves a series of incidents where logging operations have been systematically disrupted by what witnesses describe as tree-shaped humanoids that emerge from old-growth timber whenever chainsaws approach.

According to company spokesperson Derek Branson, the entities are simply ‘very dedicated environmental activists who have invested heavily in camouflage technology.’ This explanation comes despite multiple reports of the figures dissolving into bark particles when approached and reforming several yards away near threatened trees.

We’re dealing with protesters who have clearly studied advanced theater techniques. The way they seem to merge with tree trunks is honestly impressive from a performance art perspective.

Disruption Patterns Emerge

The first incident occurred three weeks ago when a logging crew reported that their equipment ‘suddenly stopped working’ after several ‘extremely realistic tree costumes’ approached their operation site. Security footage from the scene shows normal forest undergrowth for forty-seven minutes, followed by what appears to be the trees themselves walking directly toward the machinery before the cameras malfunction.

FIELD ALERT

Logging crews report tools becoming ‘mysteriously dull’ and chainsaws developing mechanical failures within minutes of encountering the entities. Equipment functionality returns to normal once operations are moved to different forest sections.

Foreman Jim McCarthy described the entities as ‘probably just really committed method actors’ who have ‘somehow perfected the art of looking exactly like living wood grain.’ McCarthy noted that the figures appear to communicate through what sounds like wind through leaves, even on completely calm days.

INCIDENT LOG

• 14 equipment malfunctions in three weeks
• 7 reports of ‘walking trees’ across four logging sites
• 3 chainsaws found embedded in solid granite after approaching protected groves
• 0 arrests made despite multiple police responses

Local environmental groups have denied any involvement in the incidents. Sierra Club representative Maria Santos stated that while they support forest protection, their activism techniques ‘generally don’t involve dissolving into organic matter.’ Santos added that she was ‘genuinely curious’ about the protesters’ methods and would appreciate contact information.

Corporate Response Escalates

Cascade Timber has announced plans to hire ‘counter-camouflage specialists’ and invest in ‘next-generation activist detection technology.’ The company has also filed complaints with local authorities about ‘unlawful tree impersonation’ and ‘aggressive botanical cosplay.’

These are clearly just very talented individuals with access to Hollywood-level special effects. We refuse to be intimidated by superior makeup artistry.

— Cascade Timber internal memo

Company security chief Roland Pike insisted that the entities show ‘all the hallmarks of professional environmental theater.’ Pike noted that their ability to appear as motionless trees for hours at a time demonstrates ‘admirable commitment to staying in character.’ He was unable to explain how the figures manage to maintain perfect bark texture or how they coordinate the sound of creaking wood with their movements.

The entities have not demonstrated any aggressive behavior beyond protecting specific groves, though logging crews report feeling ‘persistently watched’ by trees that weren’t there moments before. Operations have been temporarily suspended while the company develops what Branson calls ‘enhanced activist negotiation protocols.’

——— ◆ ———

As logging equipment remains mysteriously prone to failure near protected areas, Cascade Timber maintains its position that the incidents involve nothing more than ‘extremely well-funded environmental performance art.’ The company has not yet explained why their security cameras consistently malfunction when the ‘activists’ appear, or why local soil samples near encounter sites now test positive for ancient root systems that weren’t there before.
